Dear friend of Spare Parts,
When Swedish activist Greta Thunberg traveled to the United Nations
Climate Action Summit in New York she could have flown, but that would have contributed to carbon emissions. Knowing that her carbon footprint could be reduced, she sailed the Atlantic carbon emission-free. That is the kind of awareness and consideration of climate impact that inspires global action. By now, you must have seen her U.N. talk where she passionately challenged leaders to rethink decisions that inevitably affect generations to come.  Her message resonated with all of us at Spare Parts.

As you know, we advance reuse and sustainability through creativity and the arts. In 2019, we navigated through our first year as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We are resourceful and collaborative and through our channels we made impacts with regional youth, parents, educators, business and art professionals. Our youth are the next Gretas. We aspire to bring sustainability, reuse, and creativity to even wider audiences.

A review of our 2019 highlights includes our work for the City of SanAntonio, Bexar County, San Antonio Independent School District, hosting our Toy Repair Clinic, Materials Give Away, awarding a CAMMIE award during Contemporary Art Month, promoting artists’ limited-edition Fiesta Medals, 5th Fridays at the Carver Cultural Community Center, Bubble Fest, being one of San Japan’s non profit beneficiaries, and programming at the San Antonio Public Library, Luminaria, and many more events. None of this could have been done without individuals understanding and believing in Spare Parts’ sustainable art practices.

We’re calling on you now to make an impact as we enter the 2020’s. Please consider making your tax deductible financial contribution knowing that it will directly enhance our multifaceted creative successes. Your support allows Spare Parts to bring programming to events, classrooms, celebrations and thousands of individuals. We are stronger together. Thank you for believing in our future.

Sincerely yours, Chris Castillo and the entire Friends of Spare Parts Board of Directors
