Volunteer

As a Spare Parts volunteer, one may find themselves teaching hands-on reuse crafts to kids at an outreach event, making t-shirt yarn for a project, or even a more behind the scenes role doing inventory or sorting out supplies in preparation for an event.

As volunteer volunteer coordinator, I love the mission of Spare Parts and feel fulfilled when I contribute to the mission, advancing reuse education through the arts.”

Reuse Got Me…VolunteeringHello Spare Parts! I’m Laura Kraus, (volunteer) Volunteer Coordinator. To become an invaluable member of Spare Parts please email volunteer@sparepartssa.org. Today we spotlight joey lopez phd.
Dr. Lopez is teacher, maker, artist, anthropologist, Spare Parts volunteer and donor and much, much more! He currently teaches new media at Texas A&M University, College Station.
Prior to teaching at Texas A&M he served as professor at the University of Incarnate Word where Lopez ran the Convergent Media Program for 7 years.  It was during this time he had the pleasure of meeting Mary Cantu, Spare Parts Founder. He has volunteered as a photographer, videographer, Mini Art Museum board member and helped ignite the process for Spare Parts to become a 501(c)3.
Lopez explains, “Through my participation with Spare Parts and my father’s involvement in waste management, I became highly interested in reuse practices. As a new media artist I’m invested in alternative intermodal art facilitation and through reuse culture I further develop curriculum and workshops both in the classroom and in community environments that promote sustainable ideals and practices.
I have really enjoyed my participation with Spare Parts and highly recommend YOU (the person who’s reading this) become a volunteer or donor or both!”
