Q. What is the Spare Parts Center For Creative Reuse?

The Center facilitates the intake of pre-owned creative materials and supplies that would otherwise be thrown away or underutilized and offers them back into the community through our program offerings and storefront.

Most major cities in the United States have a creative reuse center, a few include: Austin Creative Reuse (Austin, TX), Seattle ReCreative (Seattle, WA), Indigo Hippo (Cincinnati, OH), and SCRAP Creative Reuse (Portland, OR).

Q. Where are you located?

The Spare Parts Center for Creative Reuse is located at 13491 Wetmore Rd, San Antonio,Texas, 78247 in the North East “Uptown” area. The nearest major intersection is Thousand Oaks and Wetmore Rd. Be sure to also visit some like-minded businesses in the same shopping center: Sunin Clay Studio and The ReUp Station.

Q. What are your hours of operation?

We only offer curbside pick up hours on Saturday and Sunday from 12-3 p.m. and donations by scheduled appointment. See below for curbside and donation questions.

Q. Why are you not open to the public yet?

  • Staff. We are 100% volunteer-based and are currently a team of a few core volunteer team members. We are seeking additional folks interested in joining our team.
  • COVID Restrictions. We operate in a small (1,400sq ft) space so our capacity is already limited and more so, if there are city-wide orders restricting that further. We practice social distancing, hand sanitizing, and wearing masks for the safety of our volunteers, donors, and customers.
  • We are still acquiring fixtures, setting up departments, organizing items, and pricing every item we have in our inventory and donations we receive.
  • We plan to roll out operations in phases where we will eventually be open to the general public. We ask for your patience until we can reach that phase.

Q. What is the best way to contact you?

Please note our phone number is a land-line used strictly for curbside pickup orders. If you call or leave a message we may not be able to return your call.

Q. How can I shop at the Center?

The best way to shop at this time is through our online store. Visit the online store and check back weekly as we are working hard to list new, interesting, and useful items. If there is something you’re looking for that we do not have listed, send us an email and let us know what you would like to see listed.

We are also offering private 30-minute shopping appointments for VIP members on select weekends. Please check social media or the online shop to find out information about upcoming VIP shopping Weekend sessions.

Q. What are the hours for curbside pickup of online orders?

Once you receive confirmation that your order has been pulled and is ready for pick-up you may come to the shop on Saturday or Sundays to pick up your order between 12-3 p.m. You will receive detailed instructions on how the curbside process works if you placed an order.

Q. What is a VIP member and what are the benefits?

VIP members are a select number of individuals that wish to shop in the store on select weekends before we open to the public. VIP members also receive a 10% discount on purchase in-store and online for 12 months.

Q. How can I become a VIP member?

New VIP memberships become available when new shopping appointments are available for sale. The $25 is your annual membership fee and it schedules your time slot.

Q. Why is the VIP membership $25 that seems high?

As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on monetary donations from the community to continue to operate and grow. The Center for Creative Reuse is still in its infancy so the $25 fee is our way of raising funds from generous supporters so that we can continue to operate, grow, and eventually provide other services and programs to the community.

Through the membership, patrons of the Center for Creative Reuse receive additional benefits such as access to the Center before it opens to the public, which allows individuals a chance to purchase exclusive items not yet available to the public, or online. 

Q. Will my VIP membership be tax-deductible?

No. Although our $25 VIP membership is not tax-deductible, if patrons give a monetary donation in addition to the fee, the additional amount will be tax-deductible.  

Q. How can I donate materials?

At this time we schedule donation drop-offs on specific days and times. Please email store@sparepartssa.org to see what the next available day is.

Q. Why do I have to schedule a donation?

Since we are volunteer-based we can only schedule donation drop-off days when we have a team available. Donations days not only include receiving donations but also weighing, sorting, pricing, and sometimes cleaning. Some days we can receive over 700 pounds of items and materials. The number of donors scheduled are capped so we can work through the donations in a timely manner. 

Q. What material items do you accept?

We accept items like office supplies, fabrics, art supplies, jewelry and beads, mason jars, kid craft materials, and so much more. Periodically we may announce a public “ask” for specific items we are in great need of.

Q. What items do you not accept?

We cannot accept appliances or electronics, batteries, bedding, clothing, flammable or hazardous materials (spray paint and solvents), styrofoam, prescription bottles, stuffed toys, toiletries, or anything water damaged, rusty, sticky, moldy & dirty. Q. I have a large donation (greater than 200 pounds) or I am a business owner with bulk materials that I would like to donate. How do I go about this?

Please send an email to store@sparepartssa.org with a description of your donation. If the Center is able to accept we will make special arrangements with you.

Q. Can I get a receipt for my donation since you are a 501(c)(3) organization?

Yes, receipts are provided upon request.
